...providing a welcoming environment and meaningful spiritual formation for children from birth through fifth grade

Vision and Purpose

Charlottesville Community Church is committed to providing a welcoming environment and meaningful spiritual formation for children from birth through fifth grade. It is our goal to partner with parents to provide quality, Bible-based education in which the love of Jesus Christ is shared, and Biblical values are taught through engaging lessons and music. Our desire is to create a fun, safe, and nurturing environment for your child. We look forward to getting to know you and your family!

The CommKids Process

Children ages 0 (newborn) through 5th grade can be registered at the CommKids welcome table in the hallway leading to the foyer just beyond the water fountains. Parents should register their child(ren) prior to the start of the regular worship service. Children in CK1 and CK2 may be dropped off prior to the start of the church service (beginning at 9:50 AM). Children in CK3 should be registered at the start of the service; but they will attend the time of worship with their parents. All children in all CommKids classes (regardless of age) must be picked up by a parent (with the appropriate ID sticker) immediately following the end of the church service.

First-Time Check-in Process

On your first visit, we ask for the following personal information: parent/guardian names, children’s names, mobile phone number, and any special instructions (allergies, special needs) for each child. This information is entered into our CommKids database to help maintain our secure check-in system and parent notification system.

Safety

All CommKids volunteers are provided with training so they can create a safe, fun, and age-appropriate environment for your children. All volunteers must pass a background check before joining the CommKids team, and we use an ID tag system for check-in and pick-up. In the event that we need to contact you during the service, we ask that parents keep their mobile phone on vibrate and within reach throughout the church service.

Classes

Ages 0-2 (CK1)

Our youngest CommKids children are engaged in CK1.  Infants and pre-walkers (CK1 Infants) will be cared for by volunteers in a sectioned off area of the Cale library.  Toddlers (CK1 Toddlers) gather in a larger section of the library adjacent to the CK1 Infant area.  Our CommKids volunteers provide age-appropriate activities and songs that involve even the youngest of children in the learning process.

Age 3 through Kindergarten (CK2)

Children ages through through Kindergarten are engaged in our CK2 class. These children gather in the main Cale foyer. CK2 children enjoy a time of learning through worship, Bible-related activities, and videos that are each centered around a Bible story and the teaching of Biblical principles for life application.

1st through 5th Grade (CK3)

We believe that children's participation in worship is important to their spiritual formation. When children worship with adults, they are empowered to develop a sense of belonging to a faith community. For this reason, children in 1st-5th grade can join us for CK3 Bible study after joining their parents for worship in the gym. Before the sermon starts, children meet the CK3 teachers at the back of the gym to be escorted to their meeting location (in the corridor just beyond the Cale foyer). CK3 children enjoy a time of learning through worship, Bible-related activities, and videos that are each centered around a Bible story and the teaching of Biblical principles for life application.

CommKids Curriculum

The curriculum that we use for CommKids is called Orange, which is published by reThink Group. The toddler and preschool curriculum is called “First Look”, and the elementary curriculum is called “252 Kids”. The curriculum follows a monthly theme that matches seasons and holidays. Each Sunday, your child will learn about God and how to live their lives to honor Him through age-appropriate activities. These lessons will use worship, Bible stories, and hands-on activities to help your child learn and grow. There are also materials for parents so that the learning can continue at home if so desired.
